I have a 2000 A6 2.8 quatro Avant.

I have had the CEL on for about 5K, I pulled the code but it just turned told me that I was using the unregistered VAG software. there did not seem to be any other codes so I just ignored it for a while hoping some other code would show up.

At any rate, about a week ago I had one of those strange starts that I seem to have every six months or so. It acts like it wont start but if I keep cranking it eventually starts up roughly and then smooths out ( no smoke involved). It did that then it coughed once and then it ran fine and the CEL went out. It has not come back on since.

Very strange - have any of you seen anything like this?

is that happens, after you refill gas ???

If does, it's can be EVAP leak. Mostly purge valve just past away.

 

the problem is minor and can easily be rectified
