struts with aftermarket springs
A year ago, I bought my wife a grocery getter, 99 A6 C5 sedan. This was after she totaled her near perfect and beautiful 98 A8 which I just just dumped $,4,000 in maintenance (timing belt, oil cooler and fuel pump). There was no collision insurance and the junk yard gave me $400 for it. The A6 is in fantastic shape and runs good but has 240,000+ miles. She only drives 3,000 - 4,0000 miles a year and her only complaint is it rides hard. It doesn't bounce like worn shocks would on an old standard suspension Ford, Chevy, etc.
The PO put H&R springs on 5 yrs ago when the originals springs broke. It sits about 1" lower that stock and you can feel bumps, RR tracks, etc. Note that the springs were put on original struts which I'm sure were tired 4 years ago. It doesn't bounce but does ride hard.
I was thinking of replacing the struts and found a good deal at Blauparts:
ttps://www.blauparts.com/rear-audi-a6-shocks-set-awd-c5-sedan.html
Blauparts says, "Not recommended with aftermarket springs (H&R, etc)", Since the current struts are original factory, the Blauparts struts would be the same, only new. My question is will the Blau struts will soften the ride?
