Default Super Charging a 2.7T

Like every other 2.7T owner I live in fear and dread of the day when my turbos will go and i am faced with a big bill for there replacement.

I was looking around the forums today and saw a supercharger fitted to a 2.8 A4 Avant. Now we know that the 2.8 and the 2.7 are to an extent the same engine, also we know that one of the problems with turbos is (dare I say it the L word) lag.

So give your opinions, my plan would to be when that fateful day comes and my turbos blow out to do the following:

Remove the old dead turbos and fit the maifold from a 2.8 model. Then fit a supercharger to the 2.7 block. Anyone think this is possible?

Thanks in advance.
James

Turbo lag is not a big deal in the 2.7T It spools up fairly quick that I have noticed. As for supercharging your 2.7 I am sure it is feasible, with money you can do anything you want!

There isn't much lag in our cars IMO.

You would end up spending at least as much to put a SC in. And, it would most likely pump out less HP than a properly tuned K04 upgrade.

Don't do it.

Hahah so true. I mean in my opinion blown turbos would suck the big one, but i mean if your going to pull the engine why not put on some Ko4's, fueling, and all the goodies to go full stage 3????

From what I've read, oem K03s and labor might set you back $2-3k, if that. Doing K04s right, with different injectors, piggies, will cost $6-8k.

I have a supercharged Crossfire SRT6 and while it pulls strongly from lower rpm, the chipped A6 seems to pull a lot harder especially when it hits its power range above 3500 rpm.

IMHO, a supercharger will cost a hell of a lot more than replacing the turbos because so many other things will probably have to be changed, including reprogramming the ECU which is dang difficult.

If your worried about blown turbos and are considering a supercharger, why not just sell the 2.7t and buy and 2.8 and supercharge that?

You and I have have similar setups. My chipped A6(tip) currently surges up top. I am putting in 710Ns this weekend :-). I have a C32 AMG which has the same engine as your Crossfire, and that things pulls pretty good all the way through the range. I am not sure if the Crossfires have the traction control, but that thing sucks power. When I turn it off, my jumps from 60-100 are considerably faster than my A6. I will get a better judgement after this weekend. Sorry to go offf topic.
