Default Not charging

My week old (to me) 2000 A4 1.8T got a new motor and turbo this last week. However we took it for its first test drive tonight and there was an issue with the charging system. The issue is that its not charging at all. There are two wires coming off the back of the alternator, a big one and a small one. Can someone tell me exactly where these two wires go? The big one goes back to the depths of the motor and in the back of the motor there is a blue wire that splits off the big one (it could be the smaller wire thats plugging into the back of the alt or it could be something else) that wire is not connected to anything and I can't find anything to connect it to. Also what exactly is the big wire supposed to connect to? If anyone has a wiring diagram for the charging system that would really make this a lot easier and nobody would have to explain what and where these wires are supposed to go.

the length of the wires should be different. one is ground, one is for the battery and one is for the starter.
