Default Symptoms of bad TC

Just had my 02 A6 in to have the ignition coils replaced under recall. However, car is still running rough and check engine light started blinking (then stopped and went off). Car is running very rough like it is misfiring.

The car had been sporadically pulling the code for the TC. If the TC is going/has gone bad, what are the symptoms?

Thanks, Bill

Running rough is NOT a symptom of the TC going bad. What other codes do you have? You have to cure the running rough before addressing the TC.

The TC is the only code it is pulling as far as I know. It has sporadically pulled TC and O2 sensor but they come and go.

I used to like this dealer but I am losing faith in them. The dealer is claiming that "running rough and misfiring" is a symptom of a bad TC.

What do you mean by "as far as I know"? Are you not pulling the codes yourself? If not, buy one of those eBay VAG-COM cables and download the RossTech software and pull the codes yourself.

When does the car "run rough and misfire"? When in park? When in Drive at idle? Pulling away from a stop light? Cruising down the highway at 100 mph?

BTW, the common sign of a bad TC is the car doesn't move. Next common is the car goes into limp mode. Third common sign is it does not lock up the TC. Fourth sign is that it does not unlock the TC when it is locked and you take your foot off the gas. Do you have any of those signs?

BTW, what engine do you have? What year is your car?

I am not pulling the codes myself. I have the 2002 A6 with 3 liter.

The car runs rough under pretty much all the situations you mention. (although to less extent while idling in park). I am not sure what you mean by "limp mode"

Thanks, Bill

MAF or throtle body sensors may be the problem

I read somewhere that a bad sensor in the transmission causes TC code P0741 to appear...fix is a $70 part - called a clutch control sensor

I second bigdadi - go for the electrics. If it runs rough in Park, it has nothing to do with the TC.
