Hi. I need a little help.
I need to change a tail gate light bulb on my 2000 A6 Avant. I have directions for changing the light bulbs but they say "remove rear lid lower trim" and it is not at all clear how to do that without breaking anything. I removed the license plate and the license plate carrier but nothing seems obvious about how to remove the trim.

Any advice? Pictures help.

 

Removing and installing tailgate trim

Lower tailgate trim

Removing



–
Unscrew bolt -3- (1x).



–
Unscrew bolt behind hazard warning triangle



–
Pull lower tailgate trim -1- slightly off tailgate.



–
Unclip lower tailgate trim -1- at fasteners -6- (8x) (unfastening sequence



–
Press out light -8- from inside.



–
Unplug connector to light -8-.

Installing



–
First position lower tailgate trim -1- at rear window and then clip in.



–
Make sure grip moulding -4- is also attached with bolt -3- (detail view A).

Upper tailgate trim

Lower tailgate trim -1- removed

Removing



–
Unclip retainer tabs -7- on left and right.



–
Unclip upper tailgate trim -2- by jerking slightly at fasteners -6- (7x).

Installing



–
Before installing upper tailgate trim -2- make sure rubber buffers -5- (10x) are fitted.



–
First guide upper tailgate trim -2- behind side tailgate flanges.



–
Clip in upper tailgate trim -2- first at top and then at sides.
