I did a search and came up with nothing. So if this has already been covered, please point me in the right direction. I searched using HP 2.7 and horsepower 2.7 as well as power and A6.

Anyway, in another thread, a guy was mentioning that he had the 3.0 and wanted more power. Another person replied that he was limited to 230 hp on his engine or the belts might break.

This got me thinking, since I read elsewhere that some auto trannys can't handle the power than manual trannys can: is there a limit to how much power/torque my 03 2.7t A6 auto tranny can handle?

I am 3 years from modding since I don't want to void the warranty, but I need to start saving now so I can do the chip, exhaust, wheels, whatever else is worth doing.

the 2.7 will be fine, for your tranny if your pushing a lot of power, you can upgrade your valve body, a company called level 10 has a good upgrade, taht will make your tranny pretty tough, youll be puttin down some good numbers with the chip and exhaust, i think stock tranny can handle that, but if you upgrade your turbos and what not, you may need to strengthen your tranny

 

Thanks for the info. I seriously doubt I'll be upgrading any turbos any time soon. If they were to fail, then I may upgrade, but probably not.

 

On a related subject, I'm seriously considering a GIAC chip with Bailey Diverters for my 2003 A6 2.7T w/ six-speed. From what I've been able to study, this will bump the hp from 250 to 320. I generally shift at low rpm and take it easy, but I want to have more jump for highway merging and passing. The vehicle has 74K miles.

Does anyone have experience with chipping an otherwise stock A6? I'm interested in reliability of the chip. changes in mileage, other problems, etc.
