Some sort of clear gel is between the mirror and the glass.
I'm assuming it is the substance that causes the mirror do dim at night.
I'm also assuming it is not fixable.

Anyone else had this problem?

 

Hey man, I am laughing but I am not laughing. I had a similar problem but not in my audi. Yes, you are right it is the substance that dims the mirror. I have an 04 escalade and I came out one morning to find "goo" all over my mirror and seats. We had a week of intense and brutal heat. I think it melted. I noticed it had dripped out the swithches that turn on the map lights. Sorry man, no cure need to replace it. Good luck
