Unfort the rear view mirror on my sons 2000 came off the windshield (unglued). I know on most cars it's held by a small medal button, but on the A4 is looks like the button is about 1" in diameter.

Does anyone know how to remove it from the mirror housing so I can reglue just the button, let it set and then attach the mirror?

Unfort, the mirror is to heavy to reglue and won't hold as is.

Same thing happened on my '97; it's just a ball joint, should pop apart with a good tug.

 

When I pulled the ball joint away from the mirror, there are wires attached to it and as far as the round metal button, there's no way to pull that to pop apart.
