Are these fair prices for service?

I took my 06 A6 4.2L in for a 75K service to the dealer. They charged $500 including a brake fluid flush & replacement. They said they came across a few problems but before I go ahead with it I am hoping I get some opinions on the estimates I'm getting cause sounds kind of high.

1. Alternator/serpentine drive belt damaged/cracked & need replacement - $401
2. Replace left & right side valve cover gaskets due to engine oil leak - $613
3. Replace passenger side front & rear outer door handles due to faults found in front & rear touch sensors. - $869

Also now that my car is out of CPO warranty am I better off going to a good independent service shop vs. the dealer ff there is one in my area (milwaukee, WI)? Thanks

The serpertine belt is part of the 75k service on the 4.2 It is a difficult job because the nose of the car needs to be removed on the 05 & 06.rice for the service, including the serpentine belt is about right.

wow... supposing they might have a $ 60 sticker price for a belt ($ 29.94 at PartsGeek), $ 340 makes it for a nice hourly rate - it doesn't take them more than 2 hours to remove and reinstall the front carriage, release the tension on the tensioner, get the old belt out and slip the new one in, does it?
A valve cover gasket set/bank is $ 32, so let's say again double for their "retail" price... From $ 128 to $ 613 must be a lot of sweet and leisure time in between, or it maybe takes a lot of time to hover over something at waist-chest level. Too many things to disconnect that take hours.
Thinking that quite a few owners seek help in here post dealership services, it really makes it sound like those guys have indeed in mind one single motto: customer first.
Helluva.

Thanks for the feedback. We only have 1 Audi dealer in this area so no competition for them and now that the car is out of CPO warranty I want to compare. I've never trusted that the dealer service department is being straight with me. During the 75K service I asked if there was an update to my MMI & Bluetooth SW version (which I know there is from the forums here) and the guy came back saying "Nope. No update at all." He then told me the 75K service also strongly recommends a fuel system flush/clean and I had this same service done last year and he kept telling me No, this is different until I pushed him and made him find that I had it done so just don't feel I"m getting straight answers from them. To tell you the truth I sometimes wonder if they actually do the things they are supposed to check during some of these scheduled services but no way to know!

Wow. I followed this link you posted expecting to see reviews of Prestige Auto but noticed that the local dealer I bought & had serviced the car, International Autos, has a ton of negative reviews so I guess my "gut feel" about them may be right. Time to find an independent service shop.

"F" is the Prestige Auto location ... click its name, a box will pop up in the map, then click review link.
"A" is your Audi dealer.

A competent, trustworthy indie shop is worth it's weight in gold. Their hourly rate is probably 1/2 that of the dealer, but neither do they have all the overhead, training, inventory, and required tools. That said, you ought to randomly survey other Audi (and BMW, Mercedes) drivers that you meet around Milawaukee.

If your lucky you can find a decent Euro Shop. Most suck *****... And what you save in hourly rate you loose in lack of ability to successfully fix the car. Labor is poor, bolts will be missing.

There a local independent shop near me that actually out sources Audi jobs as side to jobs to guys i work with. So your getting an Audi tech for cash in hand prices.

Keep in mind the general saying, "You get what you pay for" applies....

And Yes, you can update the MMI to a degree..... But it will cost you more than its worth. Cause in most instances it fries the telephone control module... Which is 600.00 by itself, Plus to pull the passenger seat and replace it.

Its called a CQ update or a Zug Update
