Thinking about '02 Audi A6 - anything I should be considering?
Dude - the turbos ARE NOT about to go bad. The turbos can last the life of the car, 250,000 miles, as long as you change your oil on a regular basis and use good synthetic oil. Why everyone says that turbos go bad is beyond me.
The buttons in the center stack should not be worn. I have 142,000 miles on my car and the buttons look brand new. I would bet someone used the wrong cleaner on them.
Check for oil leaks as the cam seals, valve cover gaskets and etc. good bad. They are not easy to replace (on the 02 2.7t, especially!).
Both the Audi and the M-B are expensive cars to maintain. Be prepared to spend money or to spend time. Large amounts of time as even the easiest job is a PITA! However, patience and perseverence will get you through.
Good luck.

Couldn't agree more except the button comment... 02 and up used funny soft touch paint which tend to wear off. I think it reacts funny with some type of lotion or something...
As for the things to anticipate for, you will need to do timing belt and water pump etc pretty soon. $1500 job from a dealer. Also check for any oil leak around valve cover gaskets, cam seals and cam chain tensioner gaskets. You might also consider a tranny fluid change. Other than that, it is just the usual maintenance stuff.
maybe so on the lotion. though I don't use it, I am the second owner. Mine are only worn off on the driver side temp controls, and around the light switch. Both places I adjust often. I think it might just be thin paint and since it has some properties of latex, does not completely adhere to the plastic underneath.
I did timing belt and water pump etc (the recommended maintenance) and it ran me about 1800 total. I have an '03 4.2 and love it! (although it hasn't been cheap to maintain). I have spent about 11K on it total since 2005, 3k of that was for a new gas tank however (dealer wouldn't cover even though other A6s had recall.)

Just turned 163k with very few repairs -- alternator, clutch and flywheel (after chipping), and front axle covers. Still on original battery, shocks, and suspension. I maintain it to specs and treat her well -- avoid racing starts, potholes, cool down after hard runs -- but drive fast. Most of the miles are highway. Turbos are a $ concern, but with care I hope to push her to well over 200k before that time comes.
