Default Timing belt question

I have an 04 A6 3.0 and the timing belt needs changing. Does anyone know a website to get the kits? Has anyone used the sites because the dealer wants over 700.00 wholesale for the parts?

Audi C5 A6 Quattro V6 3.0L > Engine > Timing > ES#4708 ECS Tuning Timing Belt Kit - Ultimate - 06C198479 V2

I had the T-Belt svc done 2 month ago, $1000 (incl T-Stat), in a Audi specialized indy shop.

Timing belt job on a 3.0 is not an easy task. You need pretty special tools. I think Blauparts.com rents the tool set, but you need to get the belt kit from them in order to rent it.

^^^^^

what he said.

the 3.0 is considered to be one of the biggest PITA timing belt jobs in auto repair. that is not to say that it isn't DIYable. just don't undertake the project without doing a ton of research first. I believe it is also one of the few timing belt jobs where you absolutely want the "specialized" tools to complete successfully
