Default Timing belt too

I dropped of my '02 allroad 2.7tfor the 80,000 mile service today. The dealer called to let me know that the timing belt looks like it needs replaceing. I already told them to hold off cause I am goingto Tahoe tonight and need the car.

My question is can they see the timing belt while doing hte 80k service? Is $1000 in labor about right? (northern california) I realize that there is a lot of labor involved.

The other reason I told them to wait is that I think I read in the service history that it was already done, andI wantto double check the records before I go ahead with the service.

thanks all!

Yeah that is right a little less than I paid. Check Advanced Audi or 2bennett they do great work.
