tips and suggestions for 98 2.8L

I see the sticky up top for the 2.7L bi-Turbo.

I am new to this forum and new to the audi world. Can some of you guys let me know what to lookout for when buying the 2.8L? I'm looking to purcahse a 98-00. What are the chronic problems?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this will help me buy the right car.

Thanks!
Joe

Joe,

I would say that the advice would be about the same. minus the turbo stuff.

Look after your o2's they tend to go bad

I have a '99 & '01 - both 2.8s. Mileage is 93k & 118k respectively (bought @ 48k & 72k). Oil leaks from the valve covers is an issue with both. Oxygen sensors cancause error codes ( I think it comes more from using regular gas than anything else). Had to have the ABS module rebuilt on the '99. Some minor problems like rear wiper washer hose disconnected from nozzle on '99 (Avant), console cup holder won't stay closed on '01, steering wheel heater stopped working on '99. Make sure heater works.

I was a little nervous about getting the '99 with high mileage but it has been a great car. Very reliable.
