Default tiptronic a6

hello everyone, im very new to this forum... i own a black 02 A6 2.7T with tiptronic.
the problem is, everytime i put it into manual mode and start to go,
it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear by itself at around 2300~2500RPM...
anyone know why? is there something wrong?

So im not the only one this has happened to? i just bought a 2.7T and i thought something was wrong... I drove a A6 2.8 that was a loaner and the tiptronic worked fine like a regular 5 speed, it only shifted when i shifted it... but mine shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 2500 rpms just like you said... I spoke to someone at an Audi dealer and he said he doesnt think it supposed to do that... but the place i bought the car from is telling me that the 2.7T model does that to protect the engine.... So they are right? Or is there something that can fix that so i can shift it at higher rpm's whenever i want?

It's a feature (or so Audi believes). There is, however, a way to over-ride this. Read the URL (and associated links branching off it) I provide here to learn more: Recoding the Transmission Control Unit with a VAG-COM

FYI, I found this by scanning the "Transmission" section of Stoney's Links (see my sig for the link to that page). A great read and a MUST for A6 owners.

If you use the 00032 transmission code, you can manually hold first. As Southboro mentioned, check his link. I used this on my previous car (2001 2.7T tiptronic) and it worked fine. Just be careful, the code also lets you downshift into first as well (as long as you are below a certain speed, but you can still get suprised by this).

Even with the 00032 recode, the transmission will still auto shift into second gear. It only does this when you are barely on the gas from a stop (I mean just BARELY accelerating!!) As far as the downshifting into 1st gear, you have to be going like 5mph. All in all I have enjoyed this simple mod for a while now.
