Default Tiptronic automatic upshift

I have an '03 2.7T that automatically shifts from 1 to 2 at about 2000 RPM's in Tiptronic mode. All other gears require the manual shift on the way up. My '99 2.8 does not do this. Any feedback would be appreciated.

all automatics rarely see 1st gear that's why they are auto yours is probably shifting from 2nd to 3rd unless your really giving it some throttle which is the only time you would see 1st gear or towing a caravan

I would really like to get more out of first gear. If I downshift and then accelerate it will hold in 1st until I push it up to 2nd. It's weird. As I said my '99 doesn't do that. Thanks for the feedback.

I've had a few automatics and they never see first gear because I have a lazy foot which is why I bought the auto as opposed to manual tranny, tiptronic is new to me so don't really know much of it chances are that's what it does

If you have access to a VAG COM, you can recode the tranny with the "00032" tiptronic code. This will enable you to hold first longer in tiptronic. I did that in my 2001 2.7T, worked like a charm. If you have a lazy foot, it will still shift, but at a slightly higher RPM. If you stomp on the pedal, it will hold 1st a LOT longer.

Thanks!
I suspected a programing issue and your explanation make sense. I will pursue.

Sort of...the 00032 is actually a hybrid between the Sport and the normal Drive programming. It will not be as aggressive as the Sport mode, so it will not kill you on gas, and you can also hold 1st a lot longer in tiptronic mode, which is actually much longer than you can hold when in Sport mode. Lastly, in Sport mode, you cannot use Tiptronic, since you ahve to shift over from Drive.

In the 2002, I use the 00032 code for what I call tiptronic "on-demand" which allows the steering wheel controls to work any time I need them. I do NOT have to shift into tiptronic for the buttons to work (which is how it comes from the factory). Instead, if I downshift with the button, regardless if I am in D or S, it will go into tip mode. After 10 seconds or so of regular driving, it will revert back to D or S. That is exactly how the RS6 tranny works.

i have my trans coded to 01032 which is appropriate for the s-line models however i noticed that alot of ppl were saying that i can hit the tip buttons on teh steering wheel and it will up or downshift ... and then go back to either sport or drive after 10 or 30 seconds ... well mine isnt doing this?!

yeap, the recode to 32 is the way to go! It'll hold first gear and improve shifting slightly.
