Tools required?
I am buying a 1999 A6 Quattro with the 2.8 and it needs a little work. It needs an ABS sensor and/or module and a snub motor mount. Do I need special tools or can I use regular ones? (I have a Passat that I have worked on with regular tools).
Also, how can I tell if it's the ABS sensor or rather the module? the brake and ABS lights are on in the car.
Lastly, the guy I am buying it from is the original owner and he doesn't know if he's done the timing belt! He knows just about nothing about cars to give him credit and its likely he paid for it without knowing what he was paying for. The car has 140,000 miles!! Is it possible he hasn't done it? He followed Audi scheduled maintenance, so at what mileage would the dealer have done it? I am also going to call the dealer tomorrow to see if they have any records.
Thanks,
-Justin

Justin,
The ABS wheel sensor is easy - 4 or 5 mm allen wrench. To determine if it is the wheel sensor or the module, read the codes. If it just says "left front wheel sensor" it is probably the wheel sensor. If it says "communications error" it is probably the module. If it just says it's a wheel sensor, try swapping the sensor to the other side to see if the problem mves with the sensor.
Snub mount requires (I believe) moving the front end to service position. Again, normal set of tools but somewhat time consuming. This is best done when changing the timing belt or when otherwise in the front of the engine.
The dealer should have the records but he may not give them to you. You may have to ask the seller to get them for you.
Good luck,
Bob
