Transmission Fluid change on High mileage?
well, so you guys looking just for AT maintenance.
I was thinking, you want to change whole AT fluid (about 9 quarts).
But, may be you right. New filter give you 80% improvement in shifting.
I got 128k on mine and i'm about do the same. My mechanic from Azerbaijan gona do it for 20-30 bucks.
BTW: Ja neznam

Just so everyone knows my car is still running great. My opinion is to "Change your transmission fluid and filter". It will make your car shift smoother than ever. I might change it again in 5000 miles to be on the safe side. Everyone needs to realize that when you work on your own car the job will get done the right way. I take extra time to clean every part. I have spent hours detailing my engine, undercarriage, transmission. As long as you don't rush a job it will get done right.
vrso2,
Ti znas. Cro je Croation. So one might trust one who is one's own in heredity. Both Jugoslavs. Both, also second gen, here, just we tend to trust our own more than, say, a "cake eater", keksar, and I don't know if that is spelt right.
vrso might be a combination of letters, and it might be your name.
If this means nothing to you, you probably are too Americanized. Forgotten or never knew your forebears tongue.
Dobro noc,
George

I would go with checking the fluid first before changing it. Your not currently having a problem and that may not be the case if you change it (that whole gamble thing). If your fluid isn't nasty and your shifting well, it may be best to leave it. There is a post in another part that references having a whine and overfilling the tranny to get rid of the whine and dealership changing again with no improvement. It might be best to leave it. Just my 2 cents
Ok, Now I've read the rest of the posts and the results following the change. I've now had a change of heart and I am thinking that I should change the fluid in my A6 too, just as a preventative measure. I must say that I know of a lot of older Audis with up to 300 k on the original trans fluid still going strong. I guess better lucky than good.

changing the ATF on an Audi and changing it on a Tahoe are night and day. You need computer assist because you are bottom filling. It is not for someone to try if they have never worked on a sealed transmission before!
Whitey,
I'm happy to report that the tranny is doing great! - 4,193 miles later (daily driving).. I'm one of the guys that changed the ATF without temp monitoring, btw.
In the spring I'll change it one more time, although probably it won't make any difference.
I had and have though a tranny code all along (Consumption Signal - Short to Ground or Open Circuit - or smthing along those lines), but I'll get yo it in about 2 weeks time. I want to check the TCM connections.

lol. I did a search and came across this thread. I wanted to see how their cars have reacted after the fluid change. My car has a couple years of miles more than their cars and the trans is slipping on gear changes. I'm gonna try to change the fluid/filter and see how it does before I take it to a shop (hoping it doesn't require a rebuild).
