IN NC, there is nothing like that either.
I bought a car, a HONDA, with a lean code on it, without knowing that the car had a engine check although the mechanic said it is fine.
It still hurts, where I couldn't find a fix for the car for a year! And paid almost $1500 for that junk. And sold it when it needed the inspection. Hope the next guy found the issue.

update: we now have records showing that he took the car to the dealership in april to have the transmission looked at. they told him it would need to be replaced, a $7000 or so fix. he knew what was going on.

i thought i researched pretty thoroughly. i saw some stuff mentioning to stay away from the cvt, but i figured some people just had bad experiences. now when googling something like 'audi cvt problems', im finding that this is an all too common problem. im disappointed in audi for not issuing some sort of recall and instead leaving tons of people with the same huge repair bill. even if i get this fixed, eventually it will have to be replaced again.

as long as the transmission needs to be replaced, is it possible to convert to a manual or tiptonic trans?

also, has anyone had success with upgrading from a five to seven plate clutch?

this sucks. im depressed about the whole situation.

If you can prove it, you could go to Small Claims... but I it takes time.

Not sure if you can swap out trannies...But, you could try to find a good rebuilt one. Look for the updated 7-disk clutch.

Have you figured out what was wrong with this one yet? Fluid leak could be real easy to fix.

if the car is worth $8000 on the open market with no problems, how much could i sell it for with serious transmission problems?

Fill it up and find the leak. Hopefully no damage has been done and it may only need a gasket or O-ring on the drain plug.

Get pentosin ATF from www.blauparts.com ( minimum of 12L because who knows how much you have lost Trany holds 9.8 empty but you still have some in there who knows what you'll need and if you run short it will be another 6 days to get more.

If you buy a trany filter kit get an extra ATF they send 5 but you will need 6.2 for a normal change (not in your case)plus you will spill some and it would be better to pre soak the new filter before installing it.

read this; https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=129704

or just jack the *** end up and fill it till it pours out with the car running from COLD in the morning not remotely warm or hot, clean the pan and find the leak. That's the info you need to get now.
If you can fix it you'll be in good shape.

To do the fill correctly you will need a Vag Com from www.ross-tech.com

or at least get it to a VW/Audi/BMW mechanic via Flatbed and have them fill it.

so you think it could just be a mechanical problem? there doesnt seem to be any fluid leaks (i was mistaken) or anything mechanically wrong with the transmission. however, a diagnostic test (using the computer thing) revealed that the tcm was 'out of range', a purely electrical problem.

the dealership is recommending replacing the transmission entirely. its possible that they have indeed found mechanical damage in addition to the tcm failure, i havent spoken with them. my stepdad is handling it.

Well that changes things...

yeah surely it does. i guess i thought i had already said that. my fault...

im hoping to get the tcm replaced and upgrade the clutch to a 7 plate. how much would that cost from a dealership?

how is the long-term reliability on the transmissions with upgraded clutches? anyone still have problems after the upgrade?

and again, what would the car sell for in its current condition?

Well, to figure the cost you would take off the costs of repairs - full dealership price, plus prolly 20-25%. So if repairs are $2500, add 25% and take $3125 off...

I doubt they opened up the transmission to find a mechanical problem. That's a pretty intensive "exercise" for just diagnosing possible mechanical failure.
Most "brand" dealers just swap transmissions, which are remanufactured by a contracted transmission shop that specializes in the trannys that go in that particular brand.
In this case, probably they send them directly to Vernon Hills, or to a closer branch of ZF N. America.

I had a transmission problem with my Hyundai back in January (90,000 miles) and they had the car for 10 days. When I went to pick up the repaired car, they had no idea what was mechanically wrong with it, as they never took it apart and just swapped it with a remanufactured one. My luck was that I was the original owner, so the repairs were under the 100,000 miles warranty. They still charged me for new CV axles (isn't that part of the Powertrain? ) ...
I doubt Audi dealers are any different.

If the TCM was "out of range", so it is an electrical problem, I don't see why they don't just replace the TCM and maybe reflash the ECU/M.?
Why they need to replace the whole transmission before even trying to put in a new TCM?
Oh, it must be the race for who gets greener nowadays.
