Transmission range sensor
The valve body 24 shows 3 choices, 1334.98, 1430.34 and 2265.48 dollars. No sales history on those. But I do get questions on the solenoid and regulating valves 17 20 and 21. They run from 87.05-178.56 dollars depending on which is bad. The lower picture with any #'s 50 and above do not apply to your car. I also give quotes once in a while on the harness 25. That runs 178.56 dollars and I don't know if you'd get the same symptoms as you have if any of these parts were the problem. I also have no sales history on any of the other items I've mentioned but have price quoted them. I know that doesn't help you much. If you really need a valve body a used trans might be an option for you? If so you can give me your vin number and I will tell you the series you have and what car models to look for at the wrecking yards so you can find the same trans that you have.
What I'm confused about is that I've seen a few people have the same problem as me and everyone thinks it's a transmission range sensor. Do these valve bodys go wrong often?

My previous picture was wrong, I got the year and model mixed up between your A4 and A6 from an earlier post. So your 06 a6 has a mechatronic type valve body but for the awd version trans. There are many posts about that type of part causing problems, more about shifting than anything else from what I read on it. The reman trans is p/n 09L-300-039-AX, or just A at the end, as the X indicates remanufactured. Price 4371.00 but I'd have to call Audi on an eta for it. The mechatronic valve body is 4F2-910-156-DX offered in a reman also at 2076.26 dollars exchange. But it's ordered off the vin to the car and comes not preprogrammed, a better word is enabled, but it must be programmed by your dealer once installed by you or an independant shop. This might cause problems if you get one from a used trans off a different car.
The model of your trans is HYR and used on the 11/05-5/06 3.2 engine cars. A narrow year range for that series trans. Other trans model codes that might work are HLK, HWD, JER, JMM for 3.2 engines and KGZ from the 4.2, but I'm only going off torque converter and various pictures that lump other trans codes into parts groups that seem to share parts for the other trans codes I listed above. I can't say if they will bolt up in your car but they do share the same transmission mounts and brackets so that's a good sign.
