Turbos off in the winter?

Turbos off in the winter?
I read in the thread at the top of the page about turning the boost down or disconnecting the turbos for the winter.
Why is it a good idea to do this in the winter and how do you do that? I have an '01 A6 2.7T. Has 73,000 miles on it. Haven’t done the timing belt yet but have gotten the O2 sensor changed. Its my first Audi, just got it two weeks ago today. So I’m very knowledgeable about the maintenance and care yet.
Also is there any other winter preparations that would be a good idea for me to do?

RE: Turbos off in the winter?
Just make sure the OIL is warmed up before hard acceleration. And keep the rpm's low for the first few miles. Run a good 0w-20/30 or 5w/20-30 like Mobil1 for the winter especially. I use 5w-20 in winter and 5w-30 in the summer.
It gets cold in Germany too and these cars were designed to run through the winter. Why else make them quattros?!

First I hear of that! Disconnecting the turbos in the winter???
In the meantime, get your service done, the big one, it is pricey but NECESSARY and get some good oil as mentioned above.
My car likes winter!
