Default Turn Signals Fixed

Just thought i would post this for future reference...

I was having an issue with sporadic finctionality with my 2002 A6 3.0 Quattro. The signals would come on, and then stop, or not work all together. I Traced the problem back to the RElay that fashed the turn signal.

The steps to diagnose were as follows:

1. Check all Bulbs functionality by using Hazard lights. If a bulb is out the flashers will run at double speed.

2. Feel to see that the relay stops working. The relay is actually part of the hazard light switch. Put your finger on the hazard light button and it should pulse with the lights.

If this is done and you feel the relay stop functioning, you can replace it by popping off the wood paned surrounding the cupholder/hazard light switch/ Switch panel. I used an interior panel removal tool. The switch can be then pried out or removed by pushing 2 thin strips of steel in to release the clips. Pull the switch out and then remove the harness from the back.

Replace the switch/relay and reverse the process to finish. This took me about 15 minutes to accomplish

Thats is what is giving me a problem.
My hazards work just fine, but my turn signals are solid.

Good DIY... A couple of pointers for people who are running into the same issue...

1) When you take out the trim/bezel, pull from the left or the right. Do not pull from the top or the bottom. Metal clips attached to the bezel, that are holding the bezel to the dash will break off if you are not careful.

2) Do not take out the cup holder. There is no need to. I made a mistake of taking out the cup holder, which made the switch removal easier; however, the LED electrical connector at the back of the cup holder got disconnected. Wiring was too short to allow for full removal. Oddly enough, the coin tray wiring was fine.

Everything else is pretty straight forward as 'vaportrails' said.

Also one more thing... the cheapest place where I found a switch is here.
