i had a buddy notice today when i started my car, i had white smoke come from my exhaust. i also know that i have to replace valve cover gaskets because leaking oil. are these related? if not whar would cause white smoke at start-up? temp outside was 62 degrees F.also it rained alot today and noticed my carpet in the trunk was wet. i didn't see any leaves or debris when i opened trunk. has anyone else had this problem?

the white smoke from the exhaust is not good but should be more of a concern if you are loosing oil. your turbos might be weaping oil. My car has been doing this from day one and my car still runs hard and I get good boost.

as for the wet trunk look at the top corner of you rear glass and see if it is coming in there and working its way into the trunk. that is the only thing I have herd of as far as people with moist trunk carpets.

 

it only happens right when i crank from cold start never while driving. still think it could be turbos?

 

I wouldnt worry about it unless it gets worse.

 

It would only happen at start up because while the car is resting the oil could settle in the turbos and then at start up it is burned off in the white smoke you see. After the car has been running the leak is too slow for it too show in the exhaust.

 

correction- it's not white smoke at startup, it's dark smoke. any thoughts?

 

change the spark plugs or re-gap/oil/oil filter/air filter/fuel filter/check for oil leaks from the cam covers leading to oil on the exhaust, just the normal problems
