Default Urgent please help!!

I have problem with my A6. The battery died the other day, and after a day of charging it wouldnt hold a charge so i bought a new one today. After installing it, now the RPMs are running really low while idling, and the transmission is jerking or the engine is not responding to pushing in the gas peddle.

Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? I have an appointment with the dealership thurs but I want answers ASAP. My guess is cuz the battery died it somehow blew some engine or transmission relays. Anyone experienced this?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Maybe a bad alternator?

Go to an auto zone, advanced auto, ...etc. have them do a load test on the alternator to see if it is properly charging. sounds like the alt is faulty and not charging the battery. the reason why the rpms are low is because the ignition system is trying to draw off of unsufficient power source. i.e. the battery is running out of juice.

You probably need to reset the throttle popsition sensor as when your battery died the Computer lost some information.
Without starting the engine, turn the ignition ON, press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, release and press again to the floor and release, turn the ignition OFF. Now start the engine. The computer will re-learn a few things about your cars and your driving habits, then you will notice that after a few miles your idle will be fine and the roughness will be gone..

I tried that method to reset the throtle position sensor, and it didnt work, but after researching this i am convinced it is a problem with my computer settings so i will just wait for the dealship to reset everything for me. Thanks for the advice

i heard some stuff about people getting the wrong brand or type of battery ... i always doubted this but maybe its tru?! audis electrical systems are very tempermental and if the line side of the battery is too strong then the load will be too large and the car will be recieving too much power ... could be the alternator but i thought usually the alternator just works or doesnt there is no real amount of time where it is slowly breaking ... good luck with your problem

Oh I might add that on my 99 the alternator died around 90k miles

When it was at it's worst, the car would lag like you describe, tranny would clunk in gear, and the P/R/N/D display would go solid

To test your alternator, put a volt meter across your battery with the car running. 13.8 = good alternator. Less than 13 = bad alternator.
