ok so i finally ordered a vag-com cable and im wondering where to get the software for this, and how to use it,, ive never dont it before.. but one thing i want to do is the window remote mod where you hold the unlock/lock buttons and the windows go up and down ect. also, what else can be done with the software and cable?

 

that`s a easy question, usb cable if is not original needs an usb drivers to be install , after that u have to set from laptop the usb port and the right com , once u done this the vag com will comunicate, and found the interface. software u get it free online with limited use, and pay for license for full version and all the benefits...
with free version u may change the transmision code, engine code, central lock code where u lock /unlock with one button , open/close windows with remote , automatic lock after 10miles/h speed, beep/no beep set alarm , also u can read and clean fault codes and engine lights , probably u may recode other modules but not sure..is limited

Another typical thing to do with the software is to change the engine and tranny coding. Typically the a6's engine coding ends in a 2 and a lot of people have been changing it to a 1 (which some claim is what the A4 is set to - see here and more specifically here).

And depending on your tranny you can make it so the tip doesn't automatically shift into 2nd, and change it into the so called "sport mode". On mine (99 a6q), i only can change from regular mode "00000" to this so called sport mode "00010" - newer trannys can use other numbers (again, see the link up there).
