What a difference a chip makes...
Just wanted to post a quick 'Howdy' as a audiforums newbie.
Bought my 2000 A6 2.7T in Dec, '03, and have used it, primarily, as a northern New England commuter. That first winter, I was contracting for a hi-tech firm on Long Island, which meant driving, each mon. morning from my home in NH, down to catch the New London (CT) ferry -- and out to Orient point, returning north each Fri night. To say the drive "sucked" would be a blatant unfairness to the word 'suck'.
My first trip home, after week 1, I drove home in a blizzard, white-out conditions, at night. But the A6 (w/ Dunlop Wintersports all the way around) got me home in one piece -- a trip I wouldn't have wanted to make in my previous rig - a Saab Aero.
Many, many, fun miles since then (working much closer to home now).
Long story-short: Had the car chipped at a an Audi/VW aftermarket specialty shop in Concord, NH two weeks ago, while replacing timing and serpentine belts, waterpump, tensioner pulley, etc (140k miles now on the car). The chip is a Dahlback - the first of several mods I'll make over the next few months.
Over the years, I've owned some reasonably fast cars (Jags, Mustangs, RX-7s), but was thoroughly unprepared for the kick-in-the-*** this car now provides. Holy-moly... Totally different car. A true 'Q' ship.
Who knew????
