Default What Is That Whining Noise

Just noticed that something is causing a fan or accessory to "whine" and I believe it is related to the AC. It whines down when the engine is turned off and also when I press "Econo" on the temp controls. Somewhere in front of engine but I can't tell exactly. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I believe you will find out that it in fact is the blower motor. They have a habit of going bad cause they run all the time. I had an 84 5000S and it whined for a year before I had to change it. I also noticed my 2002 Avant is starting it also. I haven't looked yet to see how hard it would be to change it out as of yet!

Does the blower motor have a fan, i.e., related to the small fan on right side/in front of radiator?

Still whines like a siren. Coming from the main fan in front of the radiator. Only when AC is on or related to when the fan needs to be on related to AC. Is it just the fan itself? Hmmm...

it could be the electric fan. bearings start to go bad and wine like that. if your able to reach your hand down there ( engine off and car cold so the fan dont start to run on your fingers) and spin the fan you can sometimes feel a lot of drag or hear the bearings going bad.

Yes...I will try that...never thought bearings could make such a "siren" type sound but who knows. It is definitely coming from the fan....when it is on and stops when it goes off. Thanks.
