What's the main diffirences
Between the 115 and 140hp 2.5tdi's mid 90s engines.....are the both 5 cylinder or one the V6...or if the 140 is a 5 too, is it just remapped from the factory....as I'd like to have the extra power

You seriously wouldn't see that big of discrepancy just from a remapping (especially with no turbo). The 140hp is definitely the L5. Are you sure the 115hp isn't the 1.9 inline 4?
edit: as there is no strikethrough, i'm changing the text to gray to represent that I am retracting it

I'm still trying to find a respectable source. Maybe this is it: http://www.autoevolution.com/engine/...91-25-tdi.html
Looks like the 115hp is from years '91-'94 while the 140hp was an upgraded one from '94 to '97. Older one does NOT feature direct injection which is why it is not as powerful. Very different engine designs.

Well i'm going to start by saying that I clearly haven't looked things up enough, because I've got to retract some of the things I said based on silly uneducated research. I'll blame it on the fact that I was five in 1994 and really have no knowledge of the engines and cars of that era. I honestly shouldn't have replied in the first case, but I'm always up for trying to investigate things. I'm sorry if I'm just being a nuisance, I do not know the answer to your question first-hand and am just trying to find the information via the internet. You could try audiworld.com or audizine.com because they're a little bit more popular and generally have a slightly older audience that might be able to answer your question more directly.
I can first confirm (via this document) that you are indeed correct that there were two versions of the 2.5L TDI engine on the C4 A6. Secondly, I was incorrect in saying that your (and any of the TDI's) don't have a turbo. Finally, I have some reason to believe that you can indeed chip the 2.5 to great effect based on the NUMEROUS youtube videos and a bunch of forum posts. I can't really add much else to this thread :-/
