Default Wheel Position..

I was reading another thread and the topic came up, and I was wondering. I just had my TRE's replaced, and as a result an alignment done. after the alignment, my steering wheel wasnt centered. Does that mean anything? What are the consequences of this if any? Thanks in advance guys.

I think there's no consequence, but you did go to a sloppy alignment shop. Most will not let the car off the rack if the wheel isn't centered.

I'd probably be a little leery of whether they are even competent, TO let it go that way.

Cheers,

George

I would take it back to the alignment shop and have them straighten it out. Otherwise, its just an iritation, not a problem.

Yes, usually they center the steering wheel after an alignment.

Someone, correct me if I am wrong here, but it is my understanding that after an alignment is done and the steering wheel is off center, that they have to pull the wheel and re-center it.

It was told that it is not as simply as just un-bolting the wheel from the column, and poistioning it on center.

Truth?

I run a service/parts department at a Nissan Dealership...we have a $60000 alignment machine and after you do a caster sweep/check thrust angle and make all your adjustments to spec (by the way you LOCK the steering wheel straight with a tool while doing this) the wheel should NO WAY be crooked. Off a 1/8-1/4" maybe (human error) is possible....if your wheel is crooked that means the wheel wasn't locked while aligning or it slipped off the wheel holder and alignment was not done correctly. And FYI if they didn't road test to verify it drove straight and wheel was straight they should compensate you for having to waste time going back.......I know I would!!!!!
