Why only C5 here?

i personnaly think that people that purchase expensive cars such as these, dont want to bother getting dirty.... Me personally I hate when my cars break down, but love the feeling I get when I fix it!!!!! Yeah, i can afford to buy a new car, or take it to the dealer when something happens, but I dont.... I rather do what every MAN in my family does.... fix it. I work in a business environment, and you should see peoples eyes grow when i tell told them I had to basically remove the top half ofthe engine to get to the starter on my Caddilac Deville northstar. Im sure most of you have had the same. those that cant fix there own car IMO are prissy guys who never had anyone show them the basic man things. I have had many cars, and have fixed them all, from caddyies, olds, buick, nissan toyota, and now audi. the one comment that goes on alot here is "if you cant afford it you shouldnt buy it" I hate that mentality that the Audi forums have... NEVER happened at cadillac.... We were all there to HELP!!!!!! whether its c5,c6
I actually like to chime in and help others diagnose their problems,,,, and if you cant do the same, you shouldnt join these forums, take it to the stealer!!! and let us help each other with out those negative comments
Maybe thats why you dont here from the newer car drivers.... They may think they are to good for us, and rather give their money to someone else, and not help others

I respect the guys those who fix the car themselves, but I am not the one who do that. That doesn't make me Prissy, or the rich spoilt brat. Which I am not. I bought the Audi, to experience the rich, premium experience... which only Germans can deliver. I leave my Audi to my dealers for most of the work, as I can afford the time to fix it. Also, these are way complicated cars than American cars, so why even try something and mess with it. I am sure my dealer mechanics knows better than me. In fact, I was impressed to see that the service manager at my dealer is certified tech from Audi, where he got his classes and sit for an exam in Germany.
If I want to spend my spare time under the car, I will go for old 1990 Land Rover Discovery.LRs are the car for perfect DIY. No way, I am messingwith this car. It rides like a dream, and Idon't mind it.

I didn't mean you have to have snap on tools, i mean you have to have special made audi factory tools like a $20,000 table jack to lower the entire engine and tranny together, or factory engine support tool, or countless other tools that audi special makes so we can't work on them as easilly.
Craftsman and Snap on are roughly the same, the quality is just different.

I have aligned many clutches and pressure plates with a wooden dowel, or pulled a motor with a simple come-along, or modified a tool for a particular application whenthe factory people said I had to have a special tool.
Well sure you can align a clutch, or align a prop seal and other simple stuff like that for sure, and i'll give instructions on how to do that here without special tools.
I've helped more people fix their cars through DIY than you can imagine, im not trying to scare people away from the fun of it, im just saying there is some things that you just can't do with out special tools, for instance taking out something as simple as the radio which you need the keys for. Those are cheap though.

I haven't gotten a chance to read all threw the post but. I own a 2000 A6 with tons of mods and a 2003 S8 that is stock....I bought the 2000 to mod and work with..As for the S8 I will do small work but if it gets to involved I take it to my qualified friends...Mind you I am older than most on here. But in the end if you don't enjoy working on your car but you like learning about your car this and other places are a great place to go...on average the people we learn most from is the crowd that work on there cars..and adversily we see people that don't work on there cars give the most greef (obviously not all) in the end this is a place to share info not to force one to think they are less for either working or choosing to not work on there car....in the end I enjoy working on my car so I do it because I like to. There are others that can't afford to pay so they do. in the end It is nice to be able to let some one else do all the work so you have less of the worry.....all in all work don't work an enthusiast is both
Just my 2$
Just my 2$
There are a few things that I would not tackle just because it isn't worth the bother. But I seldomlet special tools get in the way of a few weeks of fun, bloody knuckles, and grease under my fingernails. (the knuckles and grease are badges of honor- and knowing that I did it gives me great satisfaction)
Scurrying around for parts, and trying to figure out why the Germans put so many screws in a cover or even where they are is part of the challange. Just getting all the instrument pannel lights working can be a lot of fun and sucessfully tackling a brake job is a thrill. (part of the brake job thrill is doing 4 rotors and 4 calipers for about what a dealer would charge for replacing the pads and rotors on one axel)
