I have an 03 A6 3.0 Avant with 103K on it. I'm having problems with my intermittent wipers and the one-tap wiping.

When the wipers are on any of the intermittent settings, they will randomly stop working either in the off position, or rarely, in the middle of the windshield. Once they stop, I can't get them to work in any position (one-tap, int, low, high, or washer) until they decide to come on again. And recently they started to stop working when I used the one-tap setting.

It doesn't affect low or high speeds, just int, and recently one-tap. I've sprayed Tun-O-Wash into the int. lever on top of the stalk and that didn't seem to do much, (actually, that's when the one-tap started fritzing)

Do I need a new control arm for the wipers, a new wiper relay, or should I pull the control arm, take it apart and really clean it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

 

I'd first be looking at the stalk that controls the windshield wipers, if that doesn't work its not uncommon for the control module (under the dash) to cause this problem.
Given that it only does it with the one touch, i would say the stalk is at fault.
