Would You buy this car? Lemon or Lemonaid?
My wife and I are thinking our A4 is getting a little smaller as our little one gets bigger. I am looking at a 2004 A6:
2004 Gun Metal Grey
Black Leather interior
A6 3.0 2WD CVT
73,000 Miles
$9,900
Excellent Interior and Exterior
The Story:::::
Price seemed real good for an '04, then we went to test drive it and found that it was a California Lemon Law buyback for transmission slipping/jerking. They Replaced the failed valve block, and offer a free 12 Mo. 12K mile warranty on it direct from VW/Audi. I do not know specifically what all the warranty covers, it may only cover the transmission issues. We drove the car and it is still jerking and the Traction Contol light comes on. Anyways the dealer took it back to Audi and they replaced that Valve block and now he tells me it is supposed to be fixed. I will probably go look at it again tomorrow and see if it is repaired, but I am still not sure if the deal is worth the long term detriment of owning a Lemon Law buyback if I ever go to sell (clouded title) plus, who is to say that it is finally fixed for good (although they give the 12 MO/12,000 mile warranty). My plan is to keep the next car 4-5 years until around 130,000 miles or so and then sell it for $3000-$5000 is the plan. I have driven my a4 to 145,000 miles and I am just now getting rid of it on that same plan. Cheap transportation if you don't mind some maintenance.

Unless they slip in a brand new tranny, I wouldn't buy it for 10,000.
You can get into a 2000-01 Maxima or Camry that you'd drive easily for another + 60,000 miles for half of that much... And that's if you have in mind something as your last words, "cheap transportation"...
However, if you adore your "Audi owner" status, then you should be able to find another one without tranny problems, but in the same "mint" condition.

I would be weary for 2 reasons. 1. the CVT transmission. CVT wasn't reliable to begin with, but considering it is already a mess, I would stay away. 2. 3.0 motor. It is a reliable motor no doubt, but it is not easy to work on. If you are looking for 04, consider 2.7T. Yes, it may not be as reliable as the 3.0 with turbos and all, but at least it is somewhat less complicated to work on.

I voted to Run as I have been warned off the CVT cars by Audi dealerships and others on this forum. Also I have had 14 seperate faults with my A6 in the last year and 7000 miles of driving (2000 2.7T Q with 80K)
