So the answer to Whitey's gas gauge problem is to start PRAYING!

After several unsuccessful attempts at cutting the axles in half with a sawz-all, I went ahead and used NH_USA's advice of dragging out a plasma cutter. I was shocked...the equipment supply place will rent these to anyone, regardless of your experience level. They did supply me with an instruction manual but I fell asleep on page 1...that thing was huge, something like 400 pages

Anyway...I had just filled the tank a couple of days earlier so I drove around for a while and got it down to just under a half tank thinking that would be safer than having a full tank.

I also made sure to drag out the water hose, that way when I got enough clearance I could fill the tank the rest of the way with water (again as NH_USA suggested).

I don't remember much after that. The doctors said the blast blew me back 65 feet which apparently was good. It knocked me out from under the car so it didn't fall on top of me...I guess that would have been bad.

I should be out of the hospital soon but they say I'll be recovering for quite some time. Below is a pic of the car...

LOL Looks as if you were sucessful in removing the float mechanism.

You WERE very lucky the car didn't fall on you. Anything less than 65 feet and you might have messed up your new shirt. Who knows what your wife would have done to you? She spent a whole 5 minutes ironing it and she would not want to have wasted the time.

As for the hopsital stay - don't tell the doctors that you owned an Audi- they will send you to the psycho ward
Enjoy the time with the nurses (tell the blond with the big #$% I mean eyes that I'll come back soon) and see if they will extend your stay a few weeks at the end so you can party a bit more. (We won't tell your wife.)

PS I guess you didn't try the praying thing!

So I guess the moral of the story is;

If your going to take a plasma cutter to your gas tank make sure it's filled to the top and or the nurse with the big "eyes" is on shift that night!

Oh by the way if you could give me the address of the gas station you were parked at I would appreciate it. I'm renting a tanker and going to buy some gas $1.46!!!! Those were the days.

Something tells me with-in a few weeks $4.00 will be the days with this Gulf oil spill going on.

The picture didn't open in my browser but if I had seen $1.46 a gallon, I'd just figure he either lived in New Hampshire or it was the sales tax in Mass.

Thank you for all of that. For some reason, my state of mind, made all of that a lot more amusing than it probably actually is.

At least I know that there is some hope that when I try to do my TB and alternator real soon, if I fail, I can always take a plasma cutter to the gas tank. The light in my garage isn't real good some I'm thinking I can enhance the view under the car with road flare while I'm at it (for good measure)

That sounds kinda dangerous to me. For safety reasons, make sure you don't point that flare at your eyes.
