Your Help Please - A6 tire info
Hello,
I purchased an A6 last August and it's time to get new times. I have the 3.2 L A6 with 18" wheel sports package.
Here's my question.
I need to get four new tires. I was told to get Michelin Pilot HX MXM4, which go for $300 a tire.
What tire would you recommend that would give a high performance and cost less per tire?
Thanks

Holly CRAP!! That question is asking the impossible because there are so many answers.
Just make sure they are round, all the same size, and fit in the rims. LOL
Search Tire rack and see what they say. Read their reports. Compare the specs. Search this forum and see what the past discussions revieled. Then forget everything you read and purchase the pretty black ones...

I'm not sure who told you to get Michelins (and I have nothing against Michelins), but what were the OEM tires? Were you satisfied with them? I have replaced the OEM Pirelli's on mine with the same tire and now have over 40k on set #2. I'd say they'll be good until the end of summer and will need replacement. I find noise, gas mileage, and wear all good -- and winter driving fantastic. As an alternative, I was told (by Discount Tire) that Audi also uses Continental as an OEM tire. Unless you're looking for more sportiness, stick with OEM. My 17" Pirellis ran about $600 for the set and the 18" Conti's would have been $800, but Discount Tire made me a deal because they had sold me some 18" Coopers that were crap.

The Michelins came OEM when I got my 05 4.2 back in 2005. They were nothing special. I would go with season dedicated tires. I would go with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric in summer and Dunlop Winter Sport M3s in winter. But tires are a personal choice so look around. Take a look at the test results at Tire rack and decide.
