I have an '04 A8L. The dealer is telling me there is a MMI software update (ZUG 730) available for $250. He says it makes the system run faster.

Anyone done this? Does it give any additional functionality? I'm curious how it can run faster with the same hardware.

Also, I just ordered the v9 of the GPS Maps from NavTeq. Will the MMI read it with the older version of the software or do I have to upgrade.

Any info is appreciated. I just got this car a month ago and love it. Still learning though.

It won't run faster, he doesn't know what he's talking about.
An update will fix any common glitches in the old MMI software, like scrolling down the MMI page and all the sudden it bounces back to the top of the page pissing you off, crap like that.
If you haven't noticed anything like that you don't really need an update, plus $250 is a rip off for a 40 minute update.
Anything from NavTeq will work with any version of the MMI, so no worries there.

Just ordered v10
I just ordered v10 of the Navteq DVD, and have not upgraded from the original 6.00 of the MMI software. I am hoping the two will be able to coexist. Many on other forums advocate upgrading to newer versions, but I am not having any issues at current. Anyone else have any experience running newer nav DVD versions with old MMI software?

MMI software and Navteq versions don't affect each other. MMI glitches and Navteq problems are almost never related. You can update the navigation system and it won't affect the MMI.
