Default 2005 A8 MMI System

This is my first time posting in this forum and hoping to get some assistance.
I am experiencing an issue. When I start the car, the MMI screen pops up, radio turns on, the screen displayed the standard warning message, but I am unable to accept the message and move on. The radio stays on for about 15 seconds, and then the entire MMI system shuts down. The control buttons by the shift gear light ups red for a couple seconds. Hoping someone has experienced this before and knows what the best fix is for it.

I took it to the shop, and they are telling me that the entire MMI control head needs to be replaced. They quoted me about $1100 to fix. I find it strange since I have asked for the diagnostics report, and they are unwilling to share it with me. I was initially told by another technician from a different shop, that it might just be a module that needs to be replaced. He never had a chance to physically inspect the vehicle but I recall him saying this and was hoping that I can at least start there before replacing the entire unit for that cost.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks

The most likely cause is a stuck button on the control panel.

Control head is the last thing I would replace.

Ideally you would want to run an Optical Bus Diagnostic and get a full scan with VCDS to see if there are any other issues that might be causing problems.

Had the same problem with my 2005 D3 - it was a stuck controller button. Clean the buttons with tuner cleaner - gently lift each button with your finger nail, then reboot the MMI - should work fine
