850.00 sound reasonable for new thermostat?
Hello all,
My car has been running a lil hot for about a week now. I took it in to dealership and it turns out to be a faulty thermostat. But isn't 850.00 too much to change this? Pls let me know if anyone else had theirs changed. I had to change the T belt also and for Tbelt, waterpump and thermostat, they quoted 1749.00. I think that is okay and is what I am going with.
Thanks

Yeah the thermostat is behind the timing belt so might as well get all that crap done in one shot.
That way if something goes wrong after the repair it will have parts warranty and they will cover the second repair if needed for free.

damn, thats good.. did you kidnap the serv manager's daughter and hold her for ransom?
Was it done at a dealership? I know it will be a lil cheaper at the mom n pop garage, but then again, like auditech said, it will under warranty if done at the dealership. Also I will feel bad going after a lil garage after they mess something up due to lack of knowledge. But still isnt 850 too much just for the thermostat replacement??

850.00 is a little steep, a tech thats familiar with audi A8's can change the thermostat in an hour because there is enough room to get it off without pullingthe front end.
I would say 600 is what a thermostat job should be.

That is what I thought. This dealership's laborseems to be outrageous for everything. My audi has the infamous AC water leak also. Water leaks into right and left footwells when I run the AC. They wanted 6-8 hrs of labor to fix that. That is more than a thousand dollars. Crazy. I saw a thread earlier about accessing a funnel through the passenger footwell. I will have to try that. if that dont work, I guess I will have to get a bilge pump installed. Since there are a lot of complaints. shouldn't Audi be doing a recall or issuing a bulletin so we can get these fixed?

Anyways I got my car back after shelling out 1850.00. Now the car runs better than when I bought it used last year. It always had a lil hesitation when taking off and now it is totally gone. Accelerator pedal seems more solid. Quicker take offs. It is just like driving a new car. I am very happy.
