Gas just recently started going down, so you shouldn't have to worry as much about that. In the city I get about 15mpg (dropping the hammer on ricers, magnums, 300C's, Chargers, etc.). I get about 30mpg around 85 somehow. That's almost the optimal cruising speed. I took a trip from 50 miles south of Toledo, Ohio to Cleveland, Ohio (186 mi one way), and back, and only used about 3/8 of a tank. I even saw LeBron James' Mercedes while I was driving around in the city that trip. These cars are not really city cars, they're best on road trips and so on. That still doesn't deter me from the city though.
Also, these cars are so reliable and easily maintainable. I still have yet to see any rust/corrosion on this car and it's 8 years old. That's doing pretty good. The only problem I have with it is that I wish that it had the Nav Plus. I'm probably going to upgrade it to it though, just be hard to find a good donor unit.
I've got a friend who lives just a short drive away that has a '07 D3 and he loves his as much, if not more, than I do. No problems with his either. These cars are just awesome. I'd highly recommend them.

Don't you worry...I totally recognize how lucky I am to have the transmission fail just before taking delivery! I got the receipt for the repairs and the grand total came to $4500! Being that there's an extended warranty on the car, I'm sure the seller just had to pay his deductible. I'm thoroughly enjoying riding around in my new car!!!
