Default A8 Security System Problem

Has anyone had a problem with a keyfob or the security system? Every time I lock my 04 I get the panic alarm and I can't shut it off. I've changed the battery but it hasn't helped. Anyone?

Well its not the battery in the key fob, if the car re-acts to you pushing the button it has plenty of power.
Some how the key you are using lost its coding to the immobilizer module, which is right behind the ignition switch. When one key loses its function you have to take all the keys you own to the dealer and have them code the immoblizer to the keys. If the coding doesn't take to the keys it may need a new immobilizer unit which would explain why it lost the coding in the first place.

Thanks so much for the always good advise. Any idea on the cost of the immoblizer? I do have an extended warrante that should cover it with a modest deductable. The car does sit for extended periods of time, it's 5 years old and only has 38k on it so maybe it's that simple...

I can't say how much, probably closer to $500 for the module and two hours to change it out and get it coded and everything. It would be like a $800 repair bill.

Right again auditech79, it was not the battery or even recoding the keys. Don't know for sure as they still have it but my dealer says it starts even when the panic is blariing away and it shouldn't do that. They think its getting a false signals of somekind. We'll seeeeeee... I can lock it by hitting the unlock key first then the lock key once, but I can't set the alarm, If hit hit the lock feature a second time the panic goes off.
