I have an 04 A8 that will start the 1st time in the morning or when it has been sitting. When I run errands and have to get in and out is when I am having problems. When it's hot I can put the key in, turn it, and nothing. No sounds, no starter, no anything, no errors or lights either. The radio and A/C will turn on and I have power. If I let the car sit for a little it starts right up no issues. This only happens when the vehicle has been running and it is hot outside. It was fine all winter with no issues.

This morning it started right up and I drove the kids to school. Got out and walked them in to class and it started no problem when I left. Then I went to get fuel and when I turned the key there was a 5 second delay before it started and then the EPC light came on.

 

What ever came of this. I have an A8 doing the same

 

Nothing, It's still doing it. If I take the key out and put it back in and try to start it it will work after about 8-10 times. Then it's a non issue. I have taken it to Audi and they had no clue. It only does it when it's hot outside. I drove it all winter with no issues.

 

That is funny. This is the exact same issue and I can't believe the dealer couldn't figure it out. From the little reading I've done it sounds like it's the connection at the starting solenoid. Metal expands when it gets hot so it breaks the connection. If you let the vehicle sit for 10 to 15 minutes I'm assuming the issue goes away as well?

 

If I were to wait I would say it hs to cool down for at least an hour. If I take the key out, put it back in, and try to start it it will start after about 7-10 times. Then it will start if I stop again. It's the weirdest bug I have ever had in a vehcile.
