Just saw the new backup camera on the 07 A8. I wonder if I can one to add onto my 06 model. I asked two local dealership service guys but got different answers: One said there is a way, because the electrical wiring is not that different between 06 and 07. I will need to update the software for MMI in addition to ordering all the parts and wiring for the camera. It will cost extra(quite high), but do-able. The other guy told me there's no way to add on the camera because 07 A8s are very different than 06 in wiring and stuff. So, does anybody know if I can add a factory camera or not? The graphic display I have now is not bad, but u just can't beat a real camera. Thank you all!

 

Anyone has any ideas? Do we have any technicians in this place? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

Im not familiar with the a8 camera system but if its anything like the q7, i dont think it would be possible. The camara uses a sheilded cable to send the image to the mmi control module. So your mmi control module would require an input for the cable. Im not sure if yours has this input. If it doesnt you would also need an mmi control module. When you start adding up all the parts, and the extreamly high labor time for a custom install your probably better off getting a car that already has the camara.

 

I agree with Dankhoud. Its not worth the hassle.

I just installed a backup-cam in my '05 A8, with no problems at all! But I had to install it external, not in it's original place. And since your car is a '06, there should be no problems fitting the camera at it's original place! So go ahead! Just not pay a hell of alot money for it!

 

And by the way, your MMI has 2 inputs! At least I think so!

How is your German? try www.kufatec.com They sell the kit you need to retrofit a camera on your 06 A8L. They will send your parts via FEDEX from Germany. Make sure you ask them to send you installation instruction (you will probably have to translate them from German) Any dealer can do the installation.
