Question After Market Chip for A8L

Hi Folks,
I read in some Audi reviews about A8L that after market chip (about $1000) would give the car another 20 Horse power. Is that true? Has any body tried this chip? How difficult is putting it in? Is that really woth the effoert and money?

Thanks,
A.

1000 Dollars for 20 ponies is definitely not worth it.

Most chips like Unitronics don't cost $1,000, more like $600, but they don't produce 20 horsepower either. I would say its closer to 8-10.

IMO it's not worth it. An extra 20hp on top of ~330 hp (so less than 7% gain) isn't going to be a whole lot faster and I have yet to see an aftermarket chip for Audi that advertises in detail the changes being made to the ECU signals, especially the timing maps and MAF signal. Maybe I'm spoiled from my experience with my Evo, but if a power upgrade doesn't give me an omigod-hang-on-to-the-steering-wheel rush the first time I gun it, it's not worth it. Now if we were talking about going from 330 to 400 hp ...

Has anyone installed the unitronic chip. I want to put it in my 04 A8L but dont know if $630 is worth it. Can you feel a difference with 8-15 horsepower?
