Auto Closing Trunk Adjustment

Auto Closing Trunk Adjustment
I have a 04 A8 with the auto closing trunk. I had the dealer adjust it because the tail light seams didn't line up right. They still don't line up and now every now and then when I shut the trunk it doesn't "catch" and it goes back up. Anyone know any tricks to fix this? Would appreciate any help.

You also have a pull down motor, its a motor thats behind the battery with a cable that goes tothe trunk latch striker that comes as one unit. If when you trunk closes and you don't see the trunk lid being pulled down chances are the cable has broken. (happens frequently) Or your trunk hinges are bent which is another common problem and they have an updated version of hinges for the 04 A8.

If it is only now and again then it is not the cable, or it just would not move every time. Auditech 79 is correct about the hinges, there is a recall on them (in uk, where I am) the original hinge has issues, including corrosion due to choice of dissimilar metals. Get it back to the dealer as it requires further adjustment/hinge replacement.

The problem with the trunk not "catching" is for sure a problem with the latch on the trunk. They tend to stop working every now and then. As for the hinges and drive motor, the dealership should replace them for reasons given by V8 burble. Have them replace the latch while they are at it.

RE: Auto Closing Trunk Adjustment
I have owned several automobiles that had pull down trunk latch but my 04 A8L is a strange one. You have to drop the lid to get it to close. Is it possible someone (a valet perhaps) has slammed it hard and bent something? I don't remember when it started acting this way, maybe always.
