My brother just bought an '06 A8L and can't find where to put his navigation DVD. My only experience with Audi's have been with older ones (without navigation), so I was little help. Where does he place it? He said he tried the changer, but it didn't take... is it a certain slot? He says he's check the trunk and every inch of it and can't find it. If you can help, please offer as much detail as possible, he's about 4 hrs from me, so I can't just run over there and do it, I'll have to relay it to him. Thanks in advance for any help

 

Its behind the panel on the driver's side of the trunk. You have to open that panel using the handle. If its not behind the panel, then you don't have a navigation unit.

 

Thanks for the help, I got with him, doesn't have it. He thought it would since the system is asking to insert the disk for navigation. If he basically buys the drive, would that be all he needs to install to have navigation? If so, where'd be the best place to buy the drive, ebay, any websites. Of course now he wants it.

 

If its asking him to insert the disk the navigation unit is there, he just doesn't know what he's looking at. If the navigation unit wasn't installed it would say navigation not installed on the MMI screen.

 

You were right, his manuals finally came in and he was lifting the trunk floor, looking on the left side, he didn't realize he'd have to remove the whole rear side panel to have access to the navigation drive.
With that being said, he dropped down to show off his new car and what an amazing piece or both art and technology this thing is, pictures can't really do it justice. It has an understated beauty to it. I want one now...
