Found nice Audi A8 in NJ
I was just getting off the beach in NJ, when I saw a nice 1998 Audi A8 for sale. We stopped to check it out when I looked at the asking price, $6,900.
Just need some info about this year car, and what are all the possible thinks that would need replacement.
Thanks,
N00b

I'd normally start with timing belt, depending on the mileage, but, given the year, I'd say timing belt, regardless of the miliage, unless the current owner can produce proof that it's been done. Figure somewhere between $2k-$3.5K USD, depending on who does the work. High end is for stealership-work.
if it were me I'd take it to an AAMCO, or seomthing, and have te tranny checked out, too.
other than that, there's about 1000 little things that will mysteriously break, malfunction, or stop working. I'm sure others will chime in with other major items, but it's late, and that's all I cn think of, at this moment...

Do you know the mileage? Private seller I presume? That price is barely in the ballpark for a high mileage A8, but I guess they want to get rid of it in a hurry(?)
IMHO, like Nancy Reagan used to tell us, "Just say no!" And then go tell someone you trust. Like us. Personally I wouldn't even bother spending 5 seconds looking at an Autotrader picture of any D2 A8 for less than $12K. Of course it depends on how much you plan to put into it, how long you want to keep the car, and whether or not it will be a daily driver.

YEAH!!! The CV boots! Both mine are split[:@], so I've got that to do, SOON!!! Check those, if you're commited to this car. Due dilligence now, will save you in the long run. Make sure ALL the seat/headrest buttons buttons function, front AND rear! Also, cruise control, trunk release button... If anything else occurs to me I'll post back
