The new 04 and up a8 cars come in three diffrent L modles. One with a moonroof, one with a fold down rear seat and moonroof, then one with nether. If you have the one with fold down rear seats then you can take the head rest off, but if you do not then you haft to take the back seat out, then remove the head rest.

Wanted to remove the rear headrests too. searched Bentley's online service manual and found that they CAN come out, but only by removeing the lower seat cushion, then some air bag wires, then more bolts...etc. They will not ever just pull off.

Often certain headrests will require a pin to be inserted into the headrest post for the headrest to be removed. Otherwise it will only adjust up and down. I think it was a safety issue. I do know that other luxury sedans allow you to electronically fold down the headrests.... too bad Audi didn't do this.

Has anybody thought of suggesting he push the button on the dash that lowers the rear headrests? Raise the drivers seat so he looks over the rear headrest (if he's rilly that short)? With my rear headrests raised the create the illusion that there is a car sneaking up on my blindside when I glance in the rearview. With them lowered, I have no such problems. They do not block my view in any way, shape, or form. But, I am 5'-11"...

As far as I know the 05s do not have this feature. It may be available in another package for the A8, but I have not seen it.
