Ludikraut's 2004 A8
After much searching, I have finally made the leap and purchased a 2004 A8. My wife and I have had a few Audis over the years, including a 1997 A8, and after having traded in the old D2 workhorse a few years ago, I've been itching to get my paws on a D3 ... especially after renting one a few years ago and flogging it down HWY 1.
Anyways ... I'll post pics to go with this in the next few days, but for now the car's particulars:
MY: 2004
Color: Northern Blue Pearl Effect / Platinum Interior
Options: 19" wheels, Convenience package, Cold weather package, Parktronic, Solar sunroof
Mileage @ purchase: 103,500
Maintenance performed to date: all scheduled service, including timing belt/water pump, all coils replaced, trunk motor replaced
Purchase price: $12,500, private party
I am super stoked about this car. It took me about 6 months of lurking to find this deal, but it was well worth the wait! Drove it 1500 miles back to Chicago ... drives perfect. It does have some minor niggling issues, like a loose contact on the power window button, lots of sticky stuff spilled onto the MMI buttons, etc... but it drives great.
I do need to look into getting some kind of powertrain warranty for it, though. After my experience with the '97 A8, I'm a little paranoid about the tranny, although it does seem like these are holding up a lot better. I'll have to start researching 3rd party warranties.
I also don't like the fact that the speedo reads higher than it actually is. I will be getting a VAG-COM interface soon, and hopefully I'll be able to figure out a way around this issue. I also need to adjust the TPMS alarms, although it looks like I can do that through the MMI, which would be nice.
