Replacing Brakes on my 2005 A8L
Love my car and I want to do some of my own repairs. Who better but the owner. I am nota noviceto repairing German cars, I started at age 16 with a 1965 VW bug. I am 39 now and have owned a German automobile since 16. I have two issues to address.
I want some advice on the best price to quality product for the pads, I do city driving, living in Los Angeles, it is a lot of stop and go. I garage the car so I do not want to have to wash the car every other day because of brake dust. I have seen many choices on the web but have not made a choice as yet, love to hear from an Audi owner before I make the choice.
On the replacing of the pads, I will follow the process of removingthe calipers but am worried about using a "C" clamp to compress the cylindars. Should I worry or just proceed as normal. I read a post abount a 1999 brakereplacement processand need to know if the process is the same for a 2005. [8D]

RE: Replacing Brakes on my 2005 A8L
i just did my brakes the other day on my A8 L and what made it easiest is using the computer...i did one side caliper by hand using the clamp and in 1/4 the time using the computer i completed the other side and was able to adjust everything correctly...i would def recommend to get or just use a computer since it allows u to open and close the caliper with ease and electronically!!

You can't do it without a VAG COM www.ross-tech.com downloaded into your lap top. The dealer is the only other place that can change them. The rear brake caliper is controlled by the electronic parking brake which must be dis-engaged electronically or you can break the parking brake mechanism. I would have the dealer do it.
