Default timing malady ... please help!!!!

Hey all you experienced ones & gear heads ... I am in desperate need for some advice! I just did the thermostat & timing belt on my 2000 A8 (AKB), got it all right after much hassling, and swinging the engine to check it all produces a loud metallic click every half revolution or so (like a spring under tension releasing). Have no clue what on earth it is, and would really appreciate any help. Seems like the noise is coming from the left bank (drivers side) Had checked that I had TDC through crank lock (real mission, since there was no TDC marking on the engine casing). Quite clueless as to how to proceed, and really missing driving miss quattro!
Many thanks
Quinton

I wouldnt start it. I would double check that the cam for that bank is where it needs to be. Did you use the special tool to line up the cams with the crank at tdc?

Hi there
Double checked it all, not started. Used the cam tool to hold it all in place. Listend with a rod, seems like the noise eminates from the middle of the vee, right behind the concentric tensioner

Did you replace that tensioner? I would double check everything that you did. Make sure all the pullys line up. None of them are binding.
