Is it possible to unlock the bluetooth preparation on a 2004 A8 so that it can communicate with phones not on the Audi compatibility list??

I have 2 phones - Nokia 3109c and Sony W880i, both of which can 'see' the Audi but refuse to connect.

 

I dont think its a lock so much as software compatability between the devices. Not much you can do about that unless you can program software.
